In her words
Traveling the world as a young athlete—living in new cities and trying to understand the world while still growing up—is a beautifully complex phase. It is a collision of hard realities and wild ambitions; a time of major accomplishments and epic failures. It is an era of slowly marinated self-acceptance, overflowing with loss, confusion, liberating carelessness, and a fierce determination that I am still working to understand.
I hope my career serves as an homage to this fascinating transitional period, and to the young adults out there simply trying to make sense of it all. Ultimately, if we just keep showing up, our chances of achieving something meaningful are infinitely greater than if we never try.
I made the Australian ski team at 13. That milestone completely reshaped my understanding of teamwork, expectations, and goal-setting. I stayed on that relentless journey until I blew out my knee in Livigno, Italy, in 2021—an injury that ruled me out of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. I have since had multiple surgeries to return to sport, but it seems that as my life transitions, my body has chosen to do the same.
It takes three things to become a pro athlete: a strong mind, unwavering belief, and a body that works. Sometimes they all line up, and sometimes they don't. Sport teaches us movement, resilience, and bravery. It teaches us connection, teamwork, and agency. When my body finally said no, my mind continued to find ways to give my life purpose—through creativity, movement, and a deep investment in the continued power of sport to bring people together.
When my knee said no, another door opened: a career in media, talking about the very thing that brought me here. So, when Plan A doesn't go to plan, we kick the shit out of Plan B. We tackle it with the exact same belief that we deserve to be there, knowing the hard work that got us here will carry us forward.
To the women in sport who fight through the margins: keep showing up—for yourself, and for the people who showed up for you. Your time will come, and you will grow immensely. We get what we give in this life; to take from the world, we must also give back. Giving can mean a lot of things. Find out what it means to you, and see where the journey takes you.
